Way back in 1975, a young Steve Sperry started Sperry Sails from a small attic on Hiller Street in Marion, Massachusetts. The rest, as they say, is history

For the next five years Steve built the company’s reputation for making high quality sails. In 1980, he was asked to make a tent for a small family gathering, and thus the first Sperry tent was born. During the next decade, Steve’s sons, Matt and Tim, came on board, learning the ropes from their father and pushing the innovation of the next generation of Sperry Tents. Tim Sperry set up Sperry Tents in 1994 as an associated company to head up the rental side of the business, whilst Matt and Steve continued on with Sperry Sails. By 2003, with Sperry Tents expanding and demand for new tents soaring, Matt took over the helm of Sperry Sails allowing Steve to retire, although he continues to be an integral part of the company.

In 2010, and with a brand new barn to work in, Matt established Sperry Fabric Architecture as an independent division of Sperry Sails. Work soon commenced on perfecting the Savannah Series wooden frame tents as well as new types of tension structures.

Since then, and with a worldwide reputation as a high end producer of quality reliable tents, Sperry has continued to grow as a company, most recently setting up a new barn just outside Padstow in Cornwall, UK to handle orders for Europe and the rest of the World.
